SIGNAL #001: Prototype_v.28 Album - Arc1te

Cinematic, High Octane Cyberpunk that Refuses to Relent

RADAR's first Signal highlights a cyberpunk body of work that reminds us why we love the genre so much. 'Prototype_v.28' is German cyberpunk producer Arc1te's sophomore album, and in our humble opinion, the crown jewel of his eclectic but thoroughly dark electronic discography.

[01 // AC1D.exe - Arc1te]

From the very start, this track grabs hold of me and refuses to let go. It takes me on an intense joyride that I'm all too willing to be swept up by. 'AC1D.exe' begins with an arpeggiated acid synth topline that transitions into a distorted, heavy metal-like guitar riff, giving this cyberpunk-style track a genre-bending identity. This is Arc1te's sonic signature personified.

I'm transported to a futuristic labyrinth of steel, glass, and concrete high-rises, hunted down by law enforcement entities that systematically crush all resistance — a hallmark of the cyberpunk genre, but made completely distinct through Arc1te's sonic and instrument choices.

At the halfway mark is the heaviest breakdown of the song, really leaning into the guitar before the rest of the track cuts out, giving the 8-string electric guitar its own mini solo. When the rest of the instruments return, they crash in full force, including one more guitar stacked on top for good measure. It then seamlessly transitions back into a purely electronic soundscape for a high-octane finale.

The chase is over, the car is totalled, I did not escape. I am in fact being detained by the cybernetic law enforcement as I type this. Thanks Arc1te!

[02 // Dr1ve.exe - Arc1te]]

A relentless, crushing, brutally electronic cyberpunk track. This is what synthetic, dark electronic dreams are made of.

The alarm-like stabs around the first minute of the track immediately create a sense of danger, of inevitability, of being hunted. I am granted a brief reprieve from this feeling, before another blaring and haunting siren takes over, playing on top of Arc1te's astonishingly clean drums.

When I imagine myself literally fighting for my life in a dystopian future where high-tech and low-life dominates, I know I've found a cyberpunk gem.

The track closes out with those haunting sirens, reminding me this song isn't meant to make me feel safe, it's meant to make me feel.

[03 // Journey - Arc1te]]

Beautiful, atmospheric synthlines and pads create an unfolding, all-enveloping soundscape that beckons me to get lost in it, and I don't want to find my way out. Halfway through, it evolves into a dark synthwave track that paints a picture of an 80's, retro-future dystopian city, replete with half vampires that hunt down their own kind... wielding large katanas and machine pistols perhaps?

The acid synthline here is reminiscent of 'AC1D.exe', tailored to uniquely fit this track, but lending a cohesiveness to the album as a whole.

Throughout the track, however, Arc1te's industrial and distorted sound choices ground the track in the here and now of cyberpunk style music. It may paint a picture of a retro-future, but it's absolutely something that could only be heard in its exact incarnation in 2026, with Arc1te's deft hand steering the wheel.
